Demographic Profiling

Demographic profiling is essentially a form of demographic analysis that contains statistical data about the characteristics of a particular population that you are trying to learn more about.

Similarly, demographic profiles can be used:

  • to make more informed decisions regarding support services/emergency response planning etc. or to better understand their regions economy
  • to assist in developing a business plan
  • when applying for grants to assist the funding body better to better understand community’s needs by providing background information to support your project justification and plan
  • for more focused and effective project outcomes
  • to identify population trends over time

The data used to create a demographic profile is collected via multiple sources. These may include:

  • Australian Bureau of Statistics
  • census and other public records
  • surveys and community consultation
  • registries

  • other secondary data
